Emulate the well known general purpose Black & White films from Ilford, including popular discontinued films.
The Ilford film company itself was founded in the English town of the same name. They are Black & White royalty in the photography industry thanks to their 140-year heritage.
For sharpness & freedom from grain, ILFORD DELTA 100 PROFESSIONAL is simply the best in its class – offering the photographer exceptionally fine grain & a level of sharpness rarely seen, resulting in outstanding clarity of detail & the most precise image rendition.
An ISO 400 high speed film giving images with extraordinary depth & dimension, ILFORD DELTA 400 PROFESSIONAL provides an almost unrivalled combination of speed & sharpness with a width of tonal range that retains subtlety & detail.
ILFORD DELTA 3200 PROFESSIONAL is an ultra-speed black & white film, ideal for fast action & low light photography such as night time, sport, or indoor architectural applications where flash photography is ‘forbidden’.
For high quality black & white photography, ILFORD FP4 PLUS is unrivalled. Its very fine grain, outstanding sharpness & high acutance make it the film of choice whenever a job demands great enlargement or the subject contains a wealth of fine detail.
ILFORD HP5 PLUS is a high speed, medium contrast film making it especially suitable for action & press photography & also an excellent choice for general purpose photography. Nominally rated at ISO 400, it yields negatives of outstanding sharpness & fine grain under all lighting conditions.
ILFORD ORTHO PLUS Copy Film is a medium speed fine grain film suitable for studio photography, continuous tone copying, medical & forensic applications. It is available in popular sheet film sizes.
ILFORD PAN F PLUS at ISO 50 is the slowest of the ILFORD films, but when image quality, fine detail & lack of grain are more important than film speed, PAN F PLUS excels. Suitable for subjects ranging from architecture to still-lifeand portraiture to medical.
SFX 200 is a medium speed black & white camera film for creative photography. It has extended red sensitivity & is especially suited for use with a filter to create special effects. By using a deep red filter skies can be renderedalmost black & most green vegetation almost white. Its unusual tonal rendition ensures interesting results for a range of subjects, including portraits, landscapes, townscapes & architecture.
ILFORD XP2 SUPER is a sharp, fast, fine grain black & white film. It can be used for any photographic subject, but ensures excellent results when there is a wide subject brightness range. The film yields high contrast negatives & has an extremely wide exposure latitude making it suitable for use in varied lighting conditions.
Ilford FP 28 (1934–1939) General purpose panchromatic film.
Ilford HPS (1954–1998) Very high speed traditional panchromatic film. Jean-Luc Godard’s movie Alphaville was shot on HPS using mostly available light, for the record.
Filters:
The Red filter (Wratten 25) has the most dramatic effects. It creates high contrast in monochromatic scenes. It is one of the most used filters for landscape photography & where a high level of creativity is expressed.
The Orange filter (Wratten 21) is used to lighten reds in an image. It is an excellent filter as for black & white portraiture. The filter will reduce the appearance of skin blemishes & redness in the eyes.
The Yellow (Wratten 8) is a filter that has the least effect & used mainly to make blue skies a shade darker. It is probably the most used in B&W film photography & least used of all the colored filters in digital photography.
Yellowish Green (Wratten 11) filter is ideal for scenes where it is important to differentiate the green tonal values.
The Green filter (Wratten 58) is used in landscape photography as it does favor the deepening of reds & oranges & ideally suited for fall foliage landscape photography. There is a slight drawback as it will lighten the blue in the skies & reduce contrast.
The Blue filter (Wratten 80B) has traditionally been least used in monochrome photography. It was used to reduce overall contrast.
