Should work in Adobe Illustrator CS5 & newer. All is done as a graphic style via appearance palette.

How to use: just rewrite the text + choose any font you want. Or select the shape / text & choose the style from Window/Graphic Styles palette. You can also change some settings via Window / Appearance palette. If you will change the size of font / shape, you should check “Scale Strokes & Effects” in the Transform Palette options.
